Leontios Toumpouris
Leontios Toumpouris (b. Nicosia, 1982) is an artist currently based in Nicosia.
In 2016 he graduated from Glasgow School of Art’s MLitt Sculpture and from the Painting department of Athens School of Fine Arts in 2009. He exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions and participated in residencies and workshops in Europe.
Toumpouris constructs linguistic speculations and instances of interaction through fiction and relationality. He draws from painting, alchemical discourse and making to configure his work in sculpture, site-responsive installations, text, sound, moving image and performative gestures. Clay’s fragility, porous state and tactility allow him to develop narratives of interplay in which matter and bodies correlate in various degrees. By creating circumstances of shared agency and initiating dialogue, he engages with the public through collaborations with organisations to produce projects and events that encompass talks, screenings and workshops.
Recent solo exhibitions and projects include: Briefly eternal, Art-o-rama, Marseille, FR (2022), Reconfiguring motions, Korai, Nicosia, CY (2022), Palimpsest of voices, Glasgow International (2021), SOM, eins gallery, Limassol, CY (2020), Relations reversed, Thkio Ppalies, Nicosia, CY (2019) accompanied by two parallel events, Of particular images, Intermedia gallery, CCA, Glasgow, UK (2019) accompanied by three events, Phyle, Custom Lane, Edinburgh, curated by Eoin Dara (2018) and Suggestions and Encounters: Physical or Otherwise, The Telfer Gallery, Glasgow, UK, curated by Seán Elder (2018).
