Art Brussels 2023Socrates FatourosThe sun is out, it melts the snow that fell yesterday
20th – 23rd of April 2023
The sun is out, it melts the snow that fell yesterday is an exhibition by Socrates Fatouros that creates contemporary fictional narratives derived from mediaeval folk tales. The works narrate stories that have been transformed into shadows, myths, fears and, likewise, dreams. Using archetypal symbols and elements of the natural world, Fatouros proposes a perceptive and self-guided roam that signals memory into a wave of re-enacting and uncovering another interpretation of the story of the world.
Small-scale sculptural and wall gestures are veiled by a thread of bricks with peeping holes where the space becomes engaged in a game of vanishing; a way in and out of hiding from the gaze of others. Fatouros draws in this environment –an environment made out of industrial metals and materials such as polyurethane and asphalt membranes– inviting us to a different constellation of observance and self-preservation in a lifelong hunt on repeat.
The sun is out, it melts the snow that fell yesterday is a continuation of Fatouros’ exhibition Teach me something wonderful at eins gallery in 2021.
