Liste Art Fair BaselRaissa Angeli
10-16 June 2024
In transience and in a mood for flattening our sense of time, Angeli toys with temporal memories of the past and present. An effort to make sense of social, political, architectural, cultural or mental structures, is left unsettled. Mainly revolving around sculpture, Angeli’s practice traverses on how the spatial becomes a language for material remnants of history and memory, and how they transform into structural presences. Angeli’s work incorporates multiple architectural elements, often embodying a fascination with archaeology.
Having developed a specific interest in scale, materiality and a particular synthesis between craftiness and the custom reproduction of prefabricated objects, Angeli’s practice focuses on exploring the conceptual terrain of objects and is not tied to a single methodology. Angeli’s structures cannot be positioned in a single timeframe but rather placed somewhere between prehistory, the recent past and the unfulfilled future. Drawing from personal and historical references, her work creates emotional associations and dilemmas through material forms.
