Giacomo Santiago Rogado
For the time left
11th December – 15th January 2021
Bold, bright and vibrant. Giacomo Santiago Rogado´s first solo show in Cyprus, at the EINS gallery, attempts to shift our consciousness and present a sense of balance and unity through his unique installation consisting of three large– scaled canvases.
Rogado is creating a space within the space. He opens a dialogue between the space itself, the reflection of the paintings in their own surroundings and the observer. The constellation resembles a unique universe, a timeless spot where the viewer can enter and freeze time. The notion of liberation from the constant flow and counting of time grows through the search for a hold. Abstract forms, contrasting surfaces, a fast-paced and at the same time decelerating rhythm bears a sense of harmony, as subconsciousness emerges on the surface, follows the light and then comes back to the present moment. Similar to the physical phenomenon of an eclipse, when an object is temporarily obscured, by passing into the shadow of another body or by having another body pass by, the viewer is confronted with a gradient color palette – from dark blue variations to oversaturated white – almost simultaneously. It is an emotional act for both the beholder and the artist. It is an act following the principle of receptivity on how our perspective is bound to change.
As the title of the exhibition indicates, Rogado examines the in-between time. The title is a fragment of a sentence, the exhibited paintings are part of a universe, the fine line between what we can see and what we imagine, the gravityless vacuum.
In his body of work, Rogado is focusing on the relationship between the viewer and the artworks. The interaction, the rational and emotional decisions, the engagement with the visual surface are some of the essential characteristics of his work. The ongoing work series Intuition (from 2014) provides an insight of a sense of infinity. Although the artworks themselves are from different chronological periods, they complement each other, as if the one is a continuation of the other one. The exhibited artworks are new works that belong to this work series. With his latest imagery, Rogado takes us on an interstellar trip through time and space. While travelling through psychedelic worlds and vibrating structures, Rogado not only allows us to take a break, but also encourages us take a step back and relate to a greater whole for a moment that could last forever.
